Joseph N. Cangemi is a Managing Director of BNY ConvergEx Group, a BNY Securities Group Company. He is responsible for the Reg NMS Working Group established by BNY ConvergEx Group to prepare for trading and customer support upon full implementation of all Reg NMS strategies and business plans of all liquidity centers. Joe has been responsible for all NYSE trading operations including the Direct Execution Desk, a premier agency direct access desk.
Mr. Cangemi co-founded BNY Direct Execution in 1983; formerly known as Francis P. Maglio & Co., Inc. He operated as Head Trader and Chief Operating Officer until its acquisition in June of 2002. He is currently an Executive Floor Official and Past Governor of the NYSE and serves as either Chairman or Co-Chairman of numerous committees and subcommittees. Additionally, he has held posts as Relief Specialist and President of the Organization of Independent Floor Brokers. He remains a driving force in enhancing the performance of agents on the NYSE, by continuing to work to develop and introduce improved technological solutions. He was the recipient of the Sons of Italy’s Golden Lion Award in 2000.
Mr. Cangemi is a longtime member of the STA and has served in many capacities. Currently he serves on the Trading Issues Committee. Joe also serves on the SIA’s Trading Committee and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences.
Mr. Cangemi holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Rochester and is a graduate of Chaminade High School.
He lives on Long Island with his family.
