The Affiliate Liaison Committee's primary objective is to ensure that appropriate communication and support is shared between STA and the Affiliates, as well as the reverse. STA conducts Affiliate President Workshops (typically in Chicago, New York, Washington and Boca Raton) in which critical discussions occur designed to make each more effective in their respective roles. This Committee usually conducts monthly conference calls in order to have a continuous communication opportunity. Traditionally, this group has been the key source of candidates for the STA Board of Governors.

Created in 2005, this Committee is made up of compliance professionals and is designed to address issues that impact the trading securities. Their mission is focused and will benefit STA in numerous ways. Compliance based input will enhance our comment letter process. The Committee offers informative advice to our membership allowing for the prevention of unintended violations. It also provides Committee members with hands-on information that will assist in their respective firm roles. Lastly, the Compliance Committee can comment as a Committee when an individual firm comment may be ill-advised or inappropriate.

The Conference Committee is tasked with the preparation for the STA Annual Conference and Business Meeting. This includes logistics, sponsorship solicitation and creation of the program. The Committee generally begins early in the year with activity intensifying as we draw nearer to the date of the Conference. This meeting is our 'marquee' event of the year, and significantly contributes to STA's working capital. The success of this Committee is critical to STA. The Committee is supported by the efforts of the Sponsorship and Vendor Subcommittees.

The Institutional Committee (along with Trading Issues) is a core Committee in the execution of STA's mission as the representative organization of equity traders. As STA has evolved, buy-side participation has grown significantly. We continue to desire broader participation and this Committee is the vehicle utilized to voice market structure related commentary to the STA Board. The monthly conference calls provide an excellent communication device for members, as well as the opportunity to hear from, and comment to, numerous industry leaders. This Committee also has the opportunity to submit comment letters on its behalf. This is true even when the position differs from that of the Trading Issues Committee, and/or the Board. This and the informational aspects make participation attractive to interested buy-side traders. Committee members should find themselves current and better informed, as well as having a platform for which to voice views and shape STA commentary.

The Nominating Committee is charged with recommending a slate of STA Officers to serve in the coming year. These recommendations are then voted upon by the Delegates attending the Annual Business Meeting (usually held in October). The Immediate Past Chairman serves as the Chair of the Committee. In addition, the By-Laws require the two previous STA Chairmen serve. The balance of the Committee is elected by delegates at the Annual Business Meeting. The Board of Governors provides a list of at least eight candidates, four of whom will be elected. Thus, the Committee consists of seven members, three designated by the By-Laws and four elected. NOTE: The Nominating Committee is the only Committee constructed under the By-Laws.

This Committee is at the heart of STA and its mission. The Committee meets monthly (or as required) to discuss any issues impacting the trading of equity securities. Members are exposed to other industry leaders informing the group of specific issues. The Committee is intended to be inclusive and to include members from all equity market segments. The discussion of a specific rule filing leads to the creation of the STA comment letters. These letters serve to promote the interests of STA membership in the process of rule creation. Comment letters are then presented to the Executive Committee and the entire Board for approval prior to being executed. STA is dependent on this Committee's intense study of and recommendation concerning market issues. Committee members should find themselves current and better informed with current proposals, in addition to having the opportunity to shape STA commentary. This Committee is supported by the efforts of the Options and Order Routing Subcommittees.
