Without People There Would Be No Markets

Technology – it provides us with a wealth of information, makes us more productive, and has attracted countless thousands of new investors to the markets.

Without the people who execute orders, conduct research and analysis, develop, operate and maintain the technology and – most important of all – put capital at risk, there would be no stock markets to speak of.

The securities industry depends on people, and the Security Traders Association (STA) is the group that brings those people together.

STA strives to improve the ethics, business standards and working environment for our members. We work to create an atmosphere where industry professionals can share ideas and make our markets the world’s best.

We provide a forum where regulatory, legislative and technological issues can be addressed with the interests of our members always our number one priority.

5,200 Members Strong

With more than 5,200 members in 27 Affiliates and support from virtually every top firm and vendor in the industry, the Security Traders Association is the largest and most influential voice in the world for professionals engaged in the buying, selling and trading of securities.

The strength of STA lies not only in numbers, but also in its geographic diversity. Local Affiliates, the backbone of STA, form a network of members throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

Such a strong and broad-based membership gives STA the clout to advocate effectively for improved business standards, ethics and working environments in the industry with federal legislative bodies and regulators. It also forms a diverse network of members that helps foster professional development.

Because STA represents individuals, it is a powerful conduit through which your voice can be magnified and heard at the highest levels by those who make the rules, regulations and laws covering the securities markets.

STA Structure

STA’s effectiveness in achieving its goals stems from the people who devote their time to the organization’s causes—professional trading practitioners, with a small staff.

The leadership of STA consists of the elected officers and Board Members, and the officers of the Affiliates, who devote their own time to the Association’s causes. The President and Chief Executive Officer of STA is its only salaried executive.

Many of our members participate in one or more of STA’s committees, each of which addresses an area of crucial importance to the membership. Committee participation enables members to become directly involved in STA’s policy-making process, providing their expertise and input on issues of importance to them, their companies and the investing public.

STA committees include Executive, Trading Issues, International, Institutional, Compliance and Affiliate Liaison, among others.

STA is dedicated to informing its members and all investors about legislative, regulatory, technological, and investment issues affecting the financial industry.
