Why STAU?
THE STA UNIVERSITY, known as STAU, is one education outreach of the STA Foundation. As part of the core mission of the STA Foundation, the STA provides continuing education to our members. Our goal is simple: to assure that traders today, through knowledge of and insight into the latest developments in the securities industry, have the skills which will bring value to their careers and their organizations. It is through ongoing education that traders will continue to take the lead in innovation and creativity for the industry and the investors we are privileged to represent.
THE MISSION OF STAU is to educate STA members in areas critical to their continuing professional development in today’s ever-changing global trading environment. The University’s offerings are designed to enhance traders’ ongoing value to their clients and their firms. Through its offerings, STAU enables members to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to have a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of securities trading, to remain current in developments in trading, to improve their trading proficiency and productivity, and to achieve their career goals.
How it Works
STAU IS OFFERED primarily via the web on a 24/7/365 basis. We offer several types of learning experiences, which, taken together, comprise a comprehensive knowledge environment for our members. There are three innovative approaches to trader education and content: Need to Know™; Immediate Learning™; and on-line course offerings.
In addition, the STAU periodically offers telephone conference calls on topics of interest, and supports lectures and other forums, such as a recent one with Dechert LLP.
Need to Know™
THE NEED TO KNOW™ offering keeps members abreast of the larger trends, releases, and information impacting traders and the industry at the click of a mouse. Here traders can access current critical and urgent information on key industry developments from regulators, legislators, market centers, and media sources. In addition to urgent information on industry developments, we provide links to global contacts that securities industry professionals may need.
Immediate Learning™
IMMEDIATE LEARNING™ is offered in cooperation with Bloomberg LP, and is designed to provide knowledge-on-demand. Here lectures, papers, and videos can be viewed immediately. These enable traders to quickly learn or become knowledgeable about new developments in trading operations, providing the new skills required in our ever changing competitive, regulatory and technological environment. Also offered are up-to-the minute webcasts of developments in the industry as well as stored webcasts for viewing at a later date.
Course Offerings
STAU OFFERS COURSES on-line. There are two current courses in options, provided through a strategic partnership with the CBOE, and another in technical analysis, given by Ralph Acampora of Knight Capital. Courses planned for the near future are in ethics, futures, quant trading, dark pools and fixed income.
Participants can take courses in a block or in segments, at their convenience. Enrollment in STAU courses is open to members of the Security Traders Association for a nominal fee. Courses are open to others at a different fee structure.
