BOCA 2007 - PROGRAM OVERVIEW

On behalf of the Officers and Governors of the Security Traders Association and the 2007 Conference Committee, we cordially invite you to our 74th Annual Conference and Business Meeting at the beautiful Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton, Florida.

“Prospects & Predictions – Trading in 2008”, the theme for this year’s Conference, could not be more appropriate given the fact that the coming year will present trading in a fully implemented Reg NMS environment, while at the same time following the many strategic moves designed to address changes in the marketplace.

The Conference will start on Wednesday evening, October 3, 2007 and end on Sunday, October 7th. We have previously committed to a “unique” program, designed by traders, for traders, and we will deliver on that promise. We have already assembled a dynamic group of speakers to ensure that attendees leave armed with insights from the industry’s brightest thought leaders.

*strong*To provide our attendees with as wide a range of perspectives as possible, we have asked many of these leaders to present a 15-minute ‘sound byte’ of their outlook for 2008 regarding the following topical issues: the next phase for competitive market centers/broker-dealers; the impact from the globalization of markets; important innovations in trading; the major regulatory issue(s); and the overall impact on trading professionals.strong

Recent market events continue to remind us that technology itself is insufficient to properly “hedge” in all markets. This underscores the absolute need for trading professionals to thoroughly understand their trading resources. Industry advances require superior knowledge and broader skill sets in order to properly execute orders in a market with more scenarios than ever before.

This year, we return to the Boca Raton Resort & Club for our 74th Annual Conference, a venue that holds over 50 years of STA history. The Resort is undergoing a significant gentrification which will serve to enhance this already magnificent site. You may notice many changes: a new lobby, new carpeting, room upgrades, flat panel televisions and two new restaurants all for your enjoyment. Although the beach will remain open and accessible to many guests, the Beach Club will be going through major renovations this year. We anticipate that it will reopen in late Fall 2008. However, we have been advised that four new pools near the beach will definitely be completed in time for our 2008 Conference.

In business as in sports, records are meant to be broken. This year will provide many records – unthinkable just a short time back – one difference is that we have a full expectation that these records will fall perhaps even during 2008. We are in uncharted territory and it is STA’s mission to provide the best representatives and the brightest thinkers to share their perspectives and offer you direction through the course of our 2 ½ day program.

One certainty is the enjoyment that we derive from being together. Boca provides an idyllic backdrop for the reunion of friends, old and new, as well as a place to interact with service vendors and even competitors!
