Committees

The STA takes great pride in its Committees. As an organization of individuals serving individuals, our volunteer committees are the primary vehicles for producing educational content and input on industry issues, while also running the day to day operations of the STA.

Our Committees are comprised of practitioners with diverse business models who experience the changes in market structure brought on by legislative, regulatory and competitive forces. Committee members all share the common bond of voluntary service towards the betterment of our industry.

Besides providing educational content to fellow members, our Committees, when called upon by the STA Board of Governors, provide input on the market structure issues STA is involved in. This model ensures that opinions expressed in STA’s comment letters have been fully vetted by thought leaders who perform different functions within our industry. This holistic view of issues and an understanding of the lifecycle of trading an order from client, vendor, broker, exchange and back office is a cornerstone of STA’s uniqueness and strength.

Please see below to learn more about our Committees and who are currently serving on them.

STA Business Committees

The Affiliate Liaison Committee’s primary objective is to ensure that appropriate communication and support is shared between STA and the Affiliates, as well as the reverse. STA conducts Affiliate President Workshops (typically in Chicago, New York, Washington and Boca Raton) in which critical discussions occur designed to make each more effective in their respective roles. This Committee usually conducts monthly conference calls in order to have a continuous communication opportunity. Traditionally, this group has been the key source of candidates for the STA Board of Governors.

  • John Daley – Co-Chairman
  • Rory O’Kane- Co-Chairman

The Nominating Committee is charged with recommending a slate of STA Officers to serve in the coming year. These recommendations are then voted upon by the Delegates attending the Annual Business Meeting (usually held in October). The Immediate Past Chairman serves as the Chair of the Committee. In addition, the By-Laws require the two previous STA Chairmen serve. The balance of the Committee is elected by delegates at the Annual Business Meeting. The Board of Governors provides a list of at least eight candidates, four of whom will be elected. Thus, the Committee consists of seven members, three designated by the By-Laws and four elected. NOTE: The Nominating Committee is the only Committee constructed under the By-Laws.
